Yup, I remember that when Stewart approached Matt Kenseths moving car while Stewart was on foot. Then in the interview Stewart said "I'm going to run over him every chance I got from now to the end of the year, every chance I got."
Notice that Kenseth had the decency to not speed up & swerve at Stewart, like Stewart did to Ward.
And what happened? Nothing. You are as bad as the BEMs in the media.
I don't see this as tragic so much as criminal. I don't think he meant to kill him, but i do think he intended to give him a "tap." A bad decision made in the heat of the moment in the name of competitive anger.
It probably won't go down that way, I'm sure he will get a pass from prosecution, but won't deserve it in my opinion.

sped up his car the rear wheels went away form Ward to the left side, not to the right side toward Ward.

TS is an experienced veteran driver, hence, he could have avoided hitting Ward plain and simple. I hope TS pays for this in more ways than one.

Nothing has displayed the incompetence of the news as much as this story has.
I think Tony Stewart was simply trying to put dirt in the youngsters face and got a little too close for comfort. The 13 car driver Ward should have waited for the tow truck before pointing his finger and getting to close to traffic on the track. A rookie or young man's mistake. I watch the video and saw where he struck the other driver. It was a mini power slide gone horribly wrong ending in fatal consequences.
Two competitors. Tragically, but not surprisingly, one died. The utter stupidity that it takes to step out in the middle of that dirt track like that, waving arms like a raving lunatic, must violate some law of nature.
With that said, I believe that Stewart should be criminally charged. He was skilled enough to maneuver Ward's car into the wall at high speeds. He certainly was skilled enough to avoid injuring, even touching, that man on the track. Stewart's action was reckless and unreasonable, and created a substantial risk of death, which unfortunately resulted. Utter moron.
Several current and former Sprint Car drivers are now speaking out saying that in order to make a Sprint Cup turn left you have to "goose" or rev the engine. It is possible that Tony was trying at the last minute to avoid Kevin as he charged down the track. These drivers also confirmed that peripheral vision is limited in these cars and helmets.
So to jump to a conclusion without all of the facts is not good. Still as I mentioned earlier, no matter what the criminal/civil outcome will be, TS image has been tarnished forever.
