I liked ESPN's coverage, but I feel it wasn't as good as how TNN Motorsports covered IRL and NASCAR back in the late 90s (Mike Joy, Eli Gold and all them commentators). Then holding up number 3 would be CBS.
You can't beat Benny, Bob, and Ned with Dr. Jerry in the pits!
By Ned do you mean Ned Jarrett? (Dale's dad), because I distictly remember that he was a host on a TNN program in 1997/98 called "NASCAR: 50 Years" that basically did a full rundown on NASCAR history and how the technology developed for the sport at that time and how they were doing it in the 90s.
And I also found the TNN intro, it has the IRL intro but following that is the standard TNN Motorsports intro they did until 2000.
I used to hate Eli Gold on TNN, but I would take him any day over DW and friends.
No matter how much I loved TNN, I think they had nothing on the Jenkins/Parsons pair on ESPN, I'll admit that they represented commentators for NASCAR back then.
Yes, he was the third guy in the booth with Bob Jenkins and Benny Parsons. Dr. Jerry Punch was in the pits and if I recall, I think John Kirnan was on pit road too.
One of the classiest things the guys in the booth did was let Ned call the end of the Daytona 500 when his boy Dale was coming around to win the race. Ned made the call and they also had a TV camera watching his wifes reaction sitting in their car in the infield. What a show of respect for your peers, no?
Dang, I always forget about TNN. I loved TNN's coverage too, although I never liked Buddy Baker as a color commentator, Mike Joy and Eli Gold were great.
