Pothole problems at Daytona reflect poorly on NASCAR - washingtonpost.com

Not a good start for NASCAR this year. I wonder how many actually stuck around to watch the finish on tv? Not me. 1978...the last time Daytona was paved. What a joke!!!

I agree that daytona 's track condition was poor.Guess its a sign of the times really. I remmeber when F1 was held on airport runways from WWII and in city streets and was proabvly its best years of racing. But the sppeds now mean something different in tracks.

Uh-oh! Viewer ratings are down, the track is crumbling up! No point in finishing the the season! Congrats to McMurray on his first Sprint Cup Title.

Yep, pretty good day for Earnhardt-Ganassi racing! Hopefully this sets the tone for the rest of the year for the team.

I was guilty of switching back and forth between the Olympics and the pothole delays (although I saw all the green laps), IMO there's only so much interesting stuff they can ask the guys in the pits before everyone starts getting hyperbolic or just plain annoying. Can't wait until next week and I'm liking the set start times for the whole year. Finally! I don't know the last time I've caught the end of a Saturday night race, unless I'm sitting at a tavern someplace.

I've been a Jimmie Johnson fan since his first race, but his success could really hurt this sport. A guy winning 3 of 6 champions is fine but the same guy winning 4 (or 10?) in a row is never a good thing, especially when that driver is not popular to begin with. NASCAR needs Dale Jr or Carl Edwards to win it this year

This is exactly why I barely pay any attention to the sport anymore. I am a fan of Stewart and Montoya, but I have come to be a fan of anything that is not Jimmy Johnson.

The problem with Johnson is the same problem with a lot of NASCAR drivers: He seems to have a very bland personality.

I can remember about 5 or 6 years ago when people were wondering if Johnson would be the next Martin and he would always fall short of the title. He fixed that.
