Drone is a result of resonance in the full exhaust system. A muffler alone usually won't create or stop the drone but a full exhaust replacement can. Much experimentation adding a Helmholtz resonator can result in an installation without drone.
If they can do it through the use of just a muffler, a dozen other top tier manufacturers would have done it already. That hasn't happened, and as said above, it's not just about one component.
I've actually wondered if muffler placement plays a major role in drone.
On my Nova, it has a Flowmaster muffler, which are notorious for drone. However mine doesn't drone all that much and is tolerable. Maybe it's because the muffler is between the rear axle and the gas tank? Maybe it's because it has 2.25 inch pipes?
My turbo Regal otoh has a single 3 inch exhaust off the turbo out under the passenger side quarter panel. The muffler is under the back seat pass. side floor pan and drones bad around 2k rpm. The exhaust is not that old, but when I bought it, I was not aware of how bad it would drone.
