Why would you have a transmission serviced and then replace it. What is wrong with it? What kind of car are we talking about (Make. Year, Model)?
Well I recently had the transmission serviced in the last 6 months but then two days ago I found that it needed to be replaced. I have a post about that here
Something to think about is make sure the bugs are cleaned out of your A/C condenser (usually in front of the radiator) and radiator, flushing from the back side with an ordinary garden hose will usually work. Make sure the condensate drain from the evaporator (firewall, usually) is clear and water is dripping from it.
Avoid running the A/C with the fan on higher speeds when the car is not moving. Make sure the electric fans for the A/C are "on" when they should be (depends on model of car). But generally if you turn the A/C on with the car stationary, the fans will start soon after that. If they don't work you won't get good cooling and will run higher pressures in the condenser, which is harder on the system.
The best duty for a car in hot weater is to be moving at say 40 to 60 MPH, slower and it does not get as much cooling air, faster and the engine oil temp will be higher due to the higher load. This is just a generalized statement, it's not exact for every car out there.
Everything should be fine. Make sure your belt(s) are good. Check fuses for the electric radiator fans and bring spares. Make sure all the fluids are topped off and you're golden.
I've never had any heat related issues with a car. I wouldn't think there would be any special precautions unless you are going through Death Valley with a car that is on its last legs.
