Hell, I'd drive a 3 cylinder Geo Metro. What did they make, like 45mpg hwy? Plus, used ones go for like $1000.
I pulled up a 1990 Geo Metro XFI, it's fuel efficient leader with 5 speed manual, on fueleconomy.gov. The original window sticker said 53 city and 58 highway. Adjusting for new testing, it goes down to 43 city and 52 highway. A Metro LSi with 3 speed auto original window sticker said 37 city/39 hwy. Adjusting for new testing brings it down to 31 city/35hwy. It had hybrid like fuel economy only in 5 speed manual versions.

Still ok by me, I don't mind a manual and my current commuter car is a 5 spd.
My car is a 2003 Toyota Corolla I get 31 in town and 36 on the highway. On my trip to Alabama I only had to gas up 5 times. I also have a 2005 Ford Explorer I love the car for the 4x4 I like to take in the mud but I only get 17 mpg it takes me 51 dollars to gas up when I'm on empty

5 times? Where were you driving from? If you get around 36 mpg hwy and say your car has a 13 gallon tank, thats 2340 miles. I'm assuming this was round trip or you weren't driving from Missouri. Just curious.
Yes I was leaving from Missouri. Where I live It's only about 870 miles to Mobile Alabama where we go. We gassed up about every 380 miles while getting 36 mpg.

Oh ok, I was just curious. We drive from Missouri to Georgia a lot so thats why I was thrown off at first.
My Nissan Altima was built in Smyrna, Tennessee with mostly American made parts, its just as American as any Ford, GM or Chrysler Product
Because it's pretty normal when discusing American cars to mean the domestic Big 3, and not imports that are built here. Even if I agree with you in principle, it's a forum failing that few people can ever keep to the topic at hand when presented in this manner.
