1, you're not whimsical or imaginative, and 2, you didn't read about language and how tradition makes machines female, from historical traditions like in ships to romance languages, from which much of English is derived.

This 100%. Thank goodness some of us have that sense of romance and even a sense of humor about cherished objects we own.

I agree.

Imagine being at a social gathering and referring to your car as he/she and someone says "A car is a machine and does not have a gender.". It would make me wonder who invited the weirdo.

Don't worry, I would never say that. I would say a car does not have a sex.

I always wonder about the weirdos who name their cars.

I've always thought of both my vehicles as "girls". Got my truck when I was 15 and named it "Shelby" after my first girlfriend (dumb I know!) and the name has just stuck. Usually don't refer to her by name, just "Ol' Girl"

My car, OTOH, doesn't have a name, but I still like to think of it as a "girl". Like other's have said, my vehicles are more than just machines or an appliance to me, they are an extension of my personality.

My first car was named Elliot. He was a sweet MG Midget, and I think he must have whispered his name in my ear, because I haven't name another car since then.

Here's taking it another step--do you ever talk to your car? Yes, I know, sounds like I'm certifiable. I don't actually have a conversation, but if it's running well it gets the occasional compliment.
