Used to be, the vast majority of drivers used their headlights while driving in daylight fog . It was super foggy where I live this morning, and I noticed only about half of the drivers displaying lights. Anyone have any theories about this? The fog I was driving in offered about 100 feet visibility.

My guess is they have automatic headlights and it was bright enough they never turned on.

Could be, I never thought of that. Lack of driver's education, and distracted driving was what I was thinking. Probably a combination of the three. Then again, maybe they're protesting something. Whatever the case, I consider it pure ignorance on their part.

You'd be amazed at how many people I see driving around with high beams on during fog.

I will admit that I oftentimes forget to turn headlights on in fog (during daylight hours) or during the rain now that I have auto-lights.

Of course.. There's the laws that say must run headlights when running wipers.. But.. I never run wipers. I've got my windshield so Rain-X'ed that I don't need to.

Anyone have any theories about this?

People are stupid and it's far to easy to get a drivers license. Think about the competency of the average driver, half of drivers are worse than that.

Driver's license, chit. A quarter of the drivers in OK don't have a license, and that's a fact.

That's interesting...you're following the letter of the law, but if you truly never run your wipers then there are definitely times when it is so cloudy/dark that headlights are called for/recommended. Is your point to not get caught by the law or do you want to be safer?

This post says it all.

With lights on people can see you 3 car length distance away (about) .

With no lights on people can see you when their car hits your front bumper. Ouch!

You must live in an area with old cars, Most cars have headlights that are on all the time and have done for many years now.
