I'm looking at moving to Idaho from Virginia; it would be very expensive to hire a moving van for that distance, and as most of my things are either unnecessary or need to be replaced anyway, it would be wiser to purchase a new bed, desk, etc. locally. My sedan is very poor in snow, as I found out last winter, and has little capacity, so it has to go. I do not know anything about trucks, but I have been told to look for something with automatic transmission, and with little maintenance. I would like to keep it under $6K if possible, so an older model, maybe 2000, 2001 could work. Thanks for your help

I would look at older Silverados and F-150's. If size isn't a huge deal, a smaller one like ans S-10 or Ranger may work too.

In that age range it's all about F150 or Silverado. If you shop around and find a good example, you will probably also be able to unload it for what you paid for it when you reach your destination and could go back to something more efficient.

agreed F150 or chevy silverado are the #1 and #2 best selling best built pick-up trucks around and both offer tons of options for engine size, cab size, bed length and tons of optional confort and convience options. or for 6K your could get a nice gas powred F250 super duty

I would suggest buying a trailer. Seems like there is always too much to move in one trip. A good trailer is always usable and/or easily sold.
Here in CA I can buy new trailers reasonable enough to double my money up state.
