On an old CR's test of station wagons (Impala, Country Sedan. Fury Custom Suburban, Vista Cruiser) in 1973, the Fury Custom Suburban wagon on a rough road at 30 mph ended up being the quietest wagon; in it fact tied with the quietest car of the year, the Mercury Marquis Brougham. Both cars registered 24 sones on a rough road at 30 mph
of course on a quiet road at 30, highway at 60 and 70 the Fury wagon was no match for the Marquis. the Fury wagon in the other noise tests was about average compared with the other wagons
we've spoken in the past about how most Mopars were generally noisier than the competition. so i found it odd how a big Fury wagon can ride as quietly over bumps at 30 mph as a Marquis sedan.
probably was a result of Chrysler Corp's "Torsion quiet ride" ad campaign that year right? more rubber between the frame and chassis?
