If you want full size - F-150 with the I-6 4.9

If you want smaller - Ford Ranger (choose engine size based on your gas mileage goals).

as far as I know about reliability I know Chevrolet looks good

Back in April 09 I read about cars that had 1 million miles on them. One that I found noteworthy was a 91 Chevy Silverado 1500, that had over a million miles, had gone through several transmissions, gas tanks, struts, all kinds of stuff got changed out, but it STILL had the original engine. Now that IMO is just awesome

There are Fords and Dodges with million miles on it. It is all in how they are cared for.

I got my VW pickup for $35.

50 mpg on free fryer grease. (I prefer a Rabbit Diesel car($35) with a 'Snowbear' 2000# GVW trailer ($300 used))

For a heavy hauler, I prefer my '93 Dodge Cummins (~$3000) it will go well over 1mil miles @ 18 - 22 mpg (Mine is a W-350 1ton dually 4x4 flatbed) Note: the '93 was the last of the 1st Gen trucks. Newer (94+) are easier riding, but newer than '97.5 are 24V and computerized engines which are not as dependable, and 94+ suspension is whimpier.

For Heavier Hauling I have a MACK flatbed dump ($3000) ~ 12 MPG. It too will go another million miles, but you need a Class B CDL License and it is a bit unhandy to parallel park in the city. //www.city-data.com/forum/membe...-lf-way-up.jpg
