I think you guys are getting a little too strict with the definitions here. If you are going to call a Challenger (especially that 4,000 pound beast) a pony car, than I think you can include the Hyundai as well as it is far more pony car than the Challenger. If we want to limit the category to only those that historically belong than it would just be the Camaro and Mustang.

Yes lots of girls drove Mustangs back in 641/2 but most were automatics not 289 4 speeds.

The Genesis might be a nice car but IMO should not be included in the Pony Car category.

Also any car with a Fart can has to be excluded from the Pony Car Corral.
Though the Genesis used in the test is an automatic, the Genesis includes a 6 speed manual transmission standard in both the turbo4 and V6 models. Hyundai Genesis Coupe Trim: Affordable Performance 300+hp Sport Coupe | Hyundai

Wonder why they had to rent the Chevy, was GM to scared to give them one? Was surprised the Hyundia did so well but no really surprised about the bloated Challenger and Camero.

Well I agree with them about the Camaro. I'm almost 6'6 and I think it would be almost impossible for me to safely drive one simply because I wouldn't be able to see. Sat it one at the local dealership and while it is nice to look at and apparently was the fastest of the group, visibility sucks.

And for musclecars,

But I do know what you mean, the Hyundai is a nice little sport coupe, but it's not a pony car or musclecar.

Yes, that's another thing both the Mustang and Genesis have going for them; headroom. My son is 6'4" and has no trouble in either the Mustang or Genesis. The Genesis actually has more rear seat room but not quite as much trunk space as the Mustang and both beat the Camaro and Challenger from what my son said when he was shopping them.
Why would you think resale of the Genesis would be less than others? As Hyundai's reputation keeps getting better and better and with their warranty, I think resale will be at least as good as the others.

you are forgetting the most important feature of a ponycar. It must be an AMERICAN marque. End or story. Otherwise its Japanese sport coupe..

the power train of both these cars were years ahead of their time. Ford is bringing back their turbo in some of their vehicles and Buick has brought back the turbo on their Regal but no where near the performance of the turbo 3.8L V6 in the Regal GN. Wonder how fast the Buicks would be if they put the turbo on their current V6 engines? Also wonder how fast the Mustang would be if they put the turbo on the V6.

There's been talk of an Ecoboost V6 Mustang. Shelby has been doing a supercharged V6 version as a "mini" version of the GT500. The new V6 Mustangs will spank an older V8 GT already...

I think the twin turbo V6 in the SHO would make a nice engine for the Mustang but then I would have to go back on my claim that 6 cyl Pony cars are girly cars.
