my first was in 74 when I was 14 .. My Dad and I did a body off restoration on my 65 El Camino. We made it into a show car and won 100's of trophies with it.. Had it for 24 years too. Miss it
Dude why would you sell that?
My first car was a 39 Chrysler which was lost in a fire and I never got to drive it, but then I had a 65 C10 which I still have. First car I ever bought on my own was a 82 Caballero which I still have as well.
1968 Ford LTD....wimbledon white in color w/black vinyl roof and a 390 under the hood. Handed down to me in '75 or so after being in the family since new.
Let's see what I remember.....
Purchased new from Stanley Bell Ford in Bentleyville Pennsylvania (long closed).
Driver's side front and rear fenders came beige, dad refused to pick it up till they repainted them to match.
At less than 2500 miles the fan came loose from the engine and roared into the radiator.
Had a steady (and loud) tick on the speedo at around the 35mph mark, drove mom bonkers.
Brake troubles, forget exactly what kind, forced an overnight stay in some backwater town until the local Ford dealer could get parts to do work under warranty. Dad was not happy to burn up almost two days of vacation time for this.
Mom had always driven with manual brakes. Dad trained her on the power brakes, can't count how stressed he was as she almost put him through the window several times. Me, I was flopping around in the back seat having the time of my life every time she stomped the brakes.
Lasted till '76 when dad proclaimed the frame had cracked, maybe 102k on the miles. Sold for $50 as a parts car to a fellow who had a '68 convertible and needed an engine. That car ran several years until the fellow died and his car went to parts unknown.
Funny the things you remember huh? Over the years I've had a chance to pick up an LTD or two that would almost be a twin but I have zero interest to do so. It was a decent car, did pretty much what you asked and then went to auto heaven.

1939 Studebaker Commander Business Coupe, straight 6, 3 speed column shift with overdrive and a hill holder brake all for the princely sum of $3.00 in 1958.
In 1983 I was 16 I mostly rode my 1978 goldwing and didn't have a lot of need for a car,but I found a 78 mercury bobcat (same as pinto) .It needed a tranny I paid 200 for the car and 50 for a used tranny. Put the tranny in by my self and drove it for a year and a half until the tranny went out again. Parked it and some one drove by an offered me 500 for it like it was.
That was my first of many many cars

Reason: missed word
77 Grand Prix in 1984, I was in 11th grade at the time and in my first year of vocation school for auto mechanics, paid $100 for it, mint condition inside and out, light blue with white vinyl top and white interior, had a blown motor. Bought a rebuilt 327 off my teacher and we used it for class work, sold it in '85 when I joined the Navy.
It was an English Ford, four door, baby blue and the steering was so loose I kept one arm steady on the door to keep it in straight line.Wipers were vacuum controlled so slowed down when you sped up...
I wanted to mention that in 1993, I traded my Cadillac for a 1960 Oldsmobile that was not even driveable to an old man... he owned 100s of old cars on his land, woods, etc. We drove the Cadillac out there and parked it in his side yard near his house... grandpa knew him well. We would visit from time to time, the car just set in the yard... it set there untouched from 1993 until at least the last time I seen it in 2006... in total ruins, the weather and elements had ruined it. He perished in 2007 and I heard that his son had crushed all of his cars. Many were beyond repair though, as they had set in the woods for decades.
I was also going to add that the first car that *I* purchased with MY money was a 1991 Camaro RS in 1995.... biggest waste of $7500 I had ever spent! The car only had 23K and it was a total piece of crap. Come to find out the car had been in a severe accident and welded back together and the man that crashed in it, died in it. The seller knew and never told me. I sold it in 1997 with 42K at a major loss @ $2700, telling the buyer the truth about the car. I then took that $2700 and bought a 1984 Toyota 4wd truck on March 1, 1997, which was my first "import" vehicle.

It was late 1991 @ age 15, my dad bought me my first car... a 1972 Cadillac Sedan DeVille... how I miss that car! I turned 16 on March 5, 1992, but took my driving test in my aunts "nearly new" 1991 Honda Accord. lol.
Do you remember your first car and when it was you had it?
