For years and years I have been using Nu-Finish polish on my car, once a year religiously and love the results.
However I have always been annoyed with the fact that after I let it dry to a haze and wipe it off of the car, there is sort of a left over oily residue that I need to scrub off afterwards with a wet rag.
My question is- am I getting this because I let the polish get too dry before I remove it? I apply it to the entire car, let it completely dry then remove it. Am I supposed to be wiping it off almost immediately after doing a section? I have never known when they say "let dry to a haze" if that means when it looks just a bit hazy, or when it's completely dry?

No you are not waiting too long. It should be dry. It probably isn't really an oily streak, but more of a "shiny" streak. I have a hard time believing if you ran your finger over this streak it would actually pick up any substance. I have seen this at varying times with different wax products. I think the main cause it too much wax.

If you really have an oily streak, I'd suspect that the product has gone bad and some of the chemicals have separated.

Good point. I would run my finger across those streaks and they didn't feel oily- just sort of looks that way. And when pulling the car back out into the sun, it looked terrible, with these splotches/streaks all over the place- as if it was a two-tone paint color on the car. Too much wax makes sense now that you mention it- I do tend to put it on a little thicker than I probably should.

I have seen this before on my own cars. And I know that I have sometimes applied too much. So when I see the streaks, I apply another very thin coat, and polish again. But I think a thin evenly applied layer is the best approach.

My understanding is you apply a thin coat and esp if under the sun or hot weather, then you have to do one section at a time so that it is not completely dry when you want to get it off.

the oily residue your experiencing is the filler oil from the polish. to remove it, wipe the car down with 90% isopropyl alcohol. wait for about an hour after polishing to do this. make sure the surface is cool to the touch before using the alcohol.
