Mainly because of unsustainable pensions because of too many retirees. Also because of an unfair system that forces them to mainly use American unionized workers versus imports who build factories in right to work states and are paid in tax credits to lure them there.

What industry data are you referring to?

Truth is all makes have had their lemons. I've owned Chevys that never gave me an ounce of trouble. So have others I've known. I'd love to find a factory built solid front axle Toyota 4X4 but it's hard to find one that the body isn't rusted to death and the frame isn't about rusted in half.

Just because it's Japanese doesn't always mean longevity.

Totally talking out of your rear.......

I don't know why there is a debate, it's like talking about the Lakers and Celtics, both storied histories, just a preference. I've owned Chevy's. I currently own Fords. Not because I think Ford is better, just the particular car category I was looking for I think Ford prevailed in.

No ;with many the debate ended long ago when they bought the american made lemons and switched. Both will be much smaller manufacturers if they survive. They still are highly dependent on high profit large SUvs and trucks just has they have been. The same plan as the 70's that helped them to failure.Te probelm is china is the largest market how;and they have much more than just the japnese to worry about competing with.Chrylser is bascially Fiat now and there is a good chance that will happen top GM at least and Ford if they can't compete.

I know plenty of people with Toyota that have No problem what so ever. My mother has owned 3 camrys in the last 15 years and had no problem what so ever with any of them. Japanese cars last. American car companies can build a good engine, but even they are oversized and underpowered. America just don't build good cars, simple as that.

I don't like what Toyota puts out right now, but my mom has a 2000 Camry that won't die. The only issue she has ever had is the alternator and of course general items like tires, battery, etc.

I get a kick out of this debate.

I had a neighbor that always bought Buick. I asked him why and he said that he never had problems with Buicks.

Truth be known, he trades in his Buick every other year. And then, when he trades, it has about 18,000 miles on it. Of course he doesn't have any problems. He doesn't drive them long enough to even break them in.

I'm a Ford man. I ordered my Ford in January of 84 and got it in Oct of 84. It's a 1985 Ford F250. I'm still driving it. Clutch at 150,000. Water pump at 180,000. Clutch at 300,000. Truck has pulled a trailer (15,000 lb+) over half of those miles. I'm at 316,000 right now. Runs like a champ, although it's getting a little rusty. Might be because I last washed it back in 2000. It's sat outside all it's life. I change the oil about every 12,000.

My brother has a 1986 Chevy that he bought new. He's still driving it and he's at about 275,000 the last time I talked to him. About the same amount of maintenance as I've had.
