Hello everyone. I posted a thread last week telling how my car would not start. Well, it still won't start but I've got some details now. It's cranking but not starting. Someone ran a compression test and apparently it has no compression so they checked the timing belt and that is in fine condition. So I have no compression but it's not the timing belt. Anyone have any ideas as to what it could be? It was working fine before this. Oh, it's a 1993 Cutlass Supreme. Thanks everyone!

Oh and I don't know if this helps, but apparently it has a spark to it.

What engine? (hope it's not a 2.4)

No compression on any cylinder or just one or two?

Did you blow a head gasket? Check your coolant reservoir and see if you can see oil in it. Also, check your oil and see if you can see coolant in it. If the answer to either of these is yes, you blew a head gasket and should not run the car AT ALL until it's fixed. Of course...a 93 Cutlass Supreme probably isn't worth putting that much work into it.

It is a 3.1 engine. There is no compression from either cylinder.

Your car has a timing chain, not a belt.

It also has 6 cylinders. Do any of them have any compression?

Are there any giant holes or cracks in the side of the engine? That would
limit compression... What happened last time you drove the car?

No there are no holes in the engine at all. The last time I drove it I was going to the store it worked completely fine. I went into Walmart and came back out and it would not start. It cranks but wont start. There is spark but no compression from any of the cylinders.

Your car has a timing chain and crankshaft triggered ignition. Unlike cars with distributors driven by camshaft, it will have spark even if chain is broken. I would inspect chain and valve timing. There are not a lot of things that would cause all cylinders to loose compression at the same time.

First instinct says someone has a defective compression gauge.

A broken timing chain may cause one or two cylinders to be at 0 lbs. but not all.

Broken cam maybe, but I doubt it.
