Just like the old horse traders car dealers still have lots of dirty tricks to pick your pocket.

Not that much dirty about it, certainly gaming the system a bit, but not necessarily illegal. I know of a couple dealers that have considered using this "trick" as a way to market Volt's at a lower more competitive price.

The vast majority of people will not be able to use the $7,500 tax credit. It can only be used to lower your tax liability to zero, but you will not be able to actually get money back on the credit like you could with the home buyer credit last year.

The Volt leases so well as the leasing company can take the full $7,500 credit for themselves and pass it on to the consumer with an attractive lease rate. Most buyers won't see much benefit from the credit unless they have large tax liabilities. By the dealers "buying" them, they can take the credit (which is easily used by them) and then pass on some of the savings to their customers by selling the Volt at a lower price.

I don't necessarily agree that this is "right", but I also don't think it's a dirty trick to scam buyers.

So what.

If you are eligible for the credit don't be a dummy and buy the car used from a Suzuki dealer, buy it new from a Chevy dealer.

If you aren't eligible and just want the car as cheap as possible go find a "used" one with ten miles on it and make them an offer.

This is not news.

There is also nothing illegal about this, nor are they scamming any potential buyers.
