putting the Fury nameplate on the former Satellite for the 1975 thru 1978 model years and the Monaco on the Coronet for 1976?

They made some distinction by naming the smaller Fury the "Salon" in it's luxury version and the bigger Fury the Gran Fury, but those are pretty trivial. anyone who eyed cars back then could see right through the trickery and one might wonder, what are they trying to do?

was this an early response to the GM downsizing of the full sizers 2 years later, kind of like to stay competitive with GM's concept and also Ford which had the Granada Ghia and later Lincoln Versailles(which of course spun off the Chrysler Lebaron)?

I believe it was their way of downsizing for the years to come. As I recall I think 1976 was the last year for the Gran Fury. I also seem to recall they stuck the Fury name on the Diplomat a few years later.

But then again if you've ever noticed, in 1977 I think it was, the Road Runner name went from being on the Satellite to the Volare.

Crazy stuff going on at the Chrysler plant for sure.
