The tires typically rotate on themselves as you drive. No need for you to personally rotate each tire.
I remember seeing a cartoon years ago where a cop had someone pulled over, the caption was "My mechanic said my tires needed to be rotated; rotating them at 100 mph was my idea!"
For me never. If I have something worked on and the offer to rotate them, I tell them to go ahead. Otherwise it is just one of those things that you know you are supposed to do, but never get to. I also do nto replace them when they get worn to a certain degree. I replace them when the blow into small strips and scatter all over the freeway where it is too dangerous to pick up the pieces so I can try to reassemble the tire.
Discount tire told me to rotate every 5k on my car (which I will do seeing as it's an AWD car, on a FWD or RWD, I don't rotate), they'll do it for free, more often too, if I request it, I thought that was pretty common practice at tire shops?

it is good for them because they can usually find something to work on when the rotate the tires. Still it is a god thing to do if you remember. how do you keep track of how many miles are on your tires? Are you that organized? Heck I do not know how many miles are on any of my cars. I keep track of oil changes based on the stickers they put on the windshield, or if I diy then just by a kind of ballpark.

It's hit-and-miss. qlty didn't mention that the rotation was free in his post so I assumed it wasn't, but then you know what happens when you assume.
Chain stores usually offer the free rotation. Mom-and-pop places generally don't, but will often do it if you ask for it. They'll often do it at no charge if you take it in for some other service, as well.
And there is more than one way to skin this cat. I once took our van in for a 4-wheel brake job and asked if they could rotate the tires. They quoted me a price so I declined. This was a place where they allow customers in the shop, so I just hung out there and BS'd with the mechanic while he worked. Fortunately he had to take a phone call while he had all 4 tires off the van, so I moved them around so that when he put them back on they would be in new positions.

Eh, I know what's needed on my vehicle (generally) so I never go for the whole "Hey we found this" spiel.
I changed the tires out just before 50k miles, so I'll just do it at 55k, 60k 65k etc (unless I sell the car before that obviously). I think the receipt has the mileage on it too actually.
Oil changes are supposed to happen at certain mileage intervals so I do those based on the current mileage. On my vehicle that would be every 7.5k miles, I don't find that to be too hard to remember.
