A man angry that a car dealership refused to take back a "lemon"

CONWAY, Mass (Reuters) - A man angry that a car dealership refused to take back a "lemon" van he had purchased, intentionally crashed it into seven parked vehicles, police said on Thursday.

The dispute began when David Cross, 42, of Salisbury, Massachusetts, and his wife on Monday bought a van at the Portsmouth Used Car Superstore, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, said Portsmouth Police Lieutenant Russell Russo.

The "lemon law" only protects a owner for a NEW vehicle.
The buyer here apparently failed to have a mechanic inspect the used vehicle before he purchased it.
He chose unwisely.

While I feel his frustration, the money it will cost him to repair the damage he caused and the potential jail time could have purchased him a new car. Idiot!

The headline is pretty misleading. The article says that the guy found out that the car needed some repairs after he bought it; generally a car is considered a "lemon" if it suffers repeated breakdowns, especially if it needs the same repair multiple times. There's nothing to indicate that the car wouldn't have been fine if the needed repairs were made.

What an idiot. He did everything wrong here. I wonder if he was surprised when he was arrested. What did he think he'd accomplish by piling more stupidity on the initial stupidity?

I can understand his frustration, but that's just plain stupidity. What did he possibly hope to accomplish by doing this? Show everyone he was pissed? So pissed that he was willing to get himself arrested and simply end up paying for the damage he caused?

Every day countless used car buyers experience buyer's remorse. So why exactly is this "news"?

Can't say I blame the guy for how he felt. I was cheated by a shady dealership that sold me a truck with a defective engine and trans. Oh but they covered up the problem.

However they had a really nice classic 55 Chevy sitting on the showroom floor they refused to sell to anyone. I thought of sending my truck nose first thru the window right in the side of that 55 Chevy. But I chose to lick my wounds and went on.

I wonder if his insurance will cover the damage since it was intentional? If not, he may be in an even bigger world of hurt: wrecked van, felony charges, and civil suit by the dealer's insurer.

Excellent plan!
