I actually saw one one time back in NJ when I was driving near the hood, but so far I have not seen any in NC.
But I do live out in the country and sometimes I have to pass farm tractors on the highway. I wonder if that's where they get their ideas about big wheels.
I'm in Charlotte, and depending on where I am in town, I could see one every day. Most of them are just jacked up junk that I don't want to be near on the road, but there is the occasional well done donk. Still ridiculous, but well executed.
I see these on the Pimp My Ride type of shows on TV lately.
Do guys really build these or are they just Hollywood creations for the characters in the "hood movies"?
They sure are goofy looking, reminds me of clown cars of the 50's. You know how many clowns can you fit in a mini car?
Sorry if I don't get it but there have always been cars I don't get.
A friend of mine had her VW thing done up on Pimp my Ride.
They had a budget to spend on each car. They had a couple thousand left and included a tent camper. I bought it from her for $1000. We see her and her boyfriend at VW meets, she lives in San Diego.
They installed a turbo 1917cc or so in her thing, the second week the transmission stripped out. She contacted them and they installed a bus tranny. They cut out holes under the front seats for sub woofers. She has removed a lot of stuff installed. They refused to give her any touch up paint for the Thing.
There a no "donks" in Oakland, and possibly none in the San Francisco Bay Area.
However, there are scrapers. But a scraper is just a general term used to describe different variations of customized vehicles in the San Francisco Bay Area.
They range from inexpensive customizations to very expensive customizations.
I've seen that Camaro before. I recognize the location...West 8 Mile in Detroit, right? Hot Wheel City is off to the right; they sell a lot of these wheels. Place looks great at night with all the neon lighting.
What's up with the advertising on the southern donks? I see donks fairly often in SE MI (saw a real nice late 70s Cutlass Supreme today) but never with advertising on them.
My dream donk...pretty funny...something nerdy late 70s, early 80s. How about a Ford Fairmont or a Cutlass Salon-wait-how about a Citation?

I pass by that Hot Wheel City location every night at work on 8 Mile to get on the Lodge freeway heading back to GR.
I agree these cars are ugly and simply bad taste. But I dont think these cars will have much trouble getting around in a foot of snow!
