I'm trying to figure this out myself. By your definition of a scraper...

...the 2 videos of scrapers that you posted aren't scrapers.

I did. You contradict yourself. From being a stock 80s-90s car with a whistle tip to being a general term applied to any customized vehicle in the SF Bay area.

Whatever. It doesn't matter.

I can respect the work involved, but wouldn't own one anyhow.

This is the first I've ever heard of them too. Never seen one before the pics at the beginning of this thread.

These cars are sone of the worst things on the road. It never ceases to amaze me how big of wheels they will put on these cars while leaving the already weak 80's brake systems stock.

As someone who lives in the Bay Area, donks or scraper, basically the same thing. Ugly and poorly thought out pieces of junk sitting on huge oversized wheels.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. You may have read my earlier posts, but it's clear you have them misconstrued. Thus, you dont understand and I did not contradict myself.

As I said earlier,

- a scraper is just a general term used to describe different variations of customized vehicles in the San Francisco Bay Area.

There are many similarities between "Donks from the South" and "Scrapers from the West"

• Large custom rims
• Custom paint job
• Custom interior
• Expensive audio systems

However, there are many differences between "Donks from the South" and "Scrapers from the West"

• Donks use suspension modifications, like those on pick-up trucks, to give adequate clearance for the large rims. Thus, Donks are referred to as "Hi-Risers" or "Sky Scrapers".

• The term "scrapers" is a general term. One variation of a scraper shares the similarities written above. The other variation of a scraper is a late 80's -90's car with no customized rims, paint, or interior. Instead, these scrapers have whistle tips and suction pipes. When the scraper is in forward motion, it generates loud whistling and suction sounds that can be heard from multiple blocks away. Thus, the term "scrapin" engenders, because it sounds like the car is literally scraping down the street.

Heretofore, "Scrapers from the West" do not fit the apt description of "Donks from the South" because they are more distinguishable than indistinguishable.

Now I do understand some people feel as if "scrapers" and "donks" are the same thing, just with different names due to geographical happenstance.

But we must understand that there are standards and definitions applied to these things, because it is cultural.

So by simply saying a "scraper" is a "donk", can completely undermine the concepts of these cultures.
