I think I've averaged 20 mpg combined from my V6 that makes over 360 hp. Mainly because I can't keep my foot out of the pedal.

It was one of these V6's.....

So far, believe it nor not, i'm at 27.5 miles per gallon which i think is pretty good considering most of my driving is city driving.

Anyway, i was curious about the best mpg other people have gotten from their 6 cyl vehicles (about 285 hp)

You do not get any better fuel mpg than my 300+hp V8? (just chassis dyno'ed 348rwhp) I just checked my car and avg. of 28 mpg. And yes, I put rubberized protective coatings on the road from stop lights .
Honestly, I think people have been misled on the whole mpg thing and engine sizes and cylinders. What it should be based on is how effiecient is the car. And I know plenty of mid sized cars (altho some mistakenly call them big cars in comparision to the sub compacts that are mislabeled mid size today) that will get high 20's mpg.

The '94 Chrysler sedan does well, local driving gets me around 21 and highway driving surprises me with around 33. The '93 minivan gives about the same. Both have the 3.0 engine.

We have a 1996 Toyota Tacoma 4wd, 5 sp, extra cab with a topper, 140k on it. Around town it gets 18 mpg. On the highway it gets 24. It recently got 22mpg on the highway loaded with camping gear, a/c on, and two bikes on the rooftop Yakima rack. Not too bad for a 15 yo truck. Nice truck.

Just this weekend I got 32.3mpg on a G6 with the 3.5. Both highway cruising and sitting in traffic for a few accidents. I couldn't believe it. The best I could ever get out of my wife's Aura (same powertrain, different tune) is 25mpg in similar conditions.
