According to the nav system, In and around the city I get about 19-23mpg in my 2006 Accord V6 (3.0L 244hp I believe). It's usually a toss up to decide if I want to pay a small toll and get more highway driving in, or go toll free but hit a lot of stop lights.
I drove from Atlanta to New York City night before last and got 27mpg. I've made the drive from California to Atlanta a couple of times and got closer to 29mpg with the flater land.
Nav systems or HUD's are rarely accurate.
They give you a idea what you are getting for mpg but if you really want to know you have to do the math yourself.
I could post numbers from 99mpg to 1 mpg if I used the nav or hud.
23-24 mpg in a 2007 G6. Highest was 36 but that was babying, but most road trips about 30 mph.
3.5l 224 HP, 4spd auto 57k miles on it. no highway, but open surbuban roads.
Probably slightly higher car has factory remote start and on hot days we use it to cool the car down a little. So it sits and isles for 5 min a couple times a week.
21-23 mph in a 2000 camaro 5speed
3.8l v6. 200 hp. 114k. Surburban and some highway driving.
Both take 87 octane... That is something else to note...
Both are nothing to brag about, but the cars were also cheap to buy and have enough power to get out of there own way in traffic. Hell the g6 is still under a factory warranty.
2010 Rav4 V6, 270 hp, combined average about 28.5-29 as calculated from fillups (the dash computer claims 30, but that's not right). About 70% "highway" at around 55-60, about 30% city. And that's on regular gas, too, not mid-grade or higher.
I don't "hypermile" but I am not lead-footed, either.

270hp ! in UK highest RAV4 is 180hp , in fact even most expensive Toyota 4wd in uk -the Amazon (at 65k no less) has only 280hp

My guess is that they don't import the Rav4 in 3.5l 6cyl pkg into the UK, then.
From Edmunds:
2010 RAV4 Limited model,
Engine & Performance
Base engine size: 3.5 L
Cam type: Double overhead cam (DOHC)
Cylinders: V6
Valves: 24
Valve timing: Variable
Torque: 246 ft-lbs. @ 4700 rpm
Horsepower: 269 hp @ 6200 rpm
Looking at the wiki for the RAV4, the options that are not available in the US are a 4 cyl turbo diesel (which I might have bought instead) and a manual transmission.

4 cyl turbo diesel accounts for vast majority of UK sales-likewise for similar cars
Although top spec 180 turbo diesel is rare
RAV4 v popular with women drivers -usually Gym instructors, hairdressers, beauticians
'02 Ford Escape, 3.0 Duratec- about 18 city, 20-22 highway. My wife with an old Olds with a 3.1 60-degree gets about the same city mileage but in the mid-upper 20s on the highway.
