Can't drive at Mach 1, and a T-38 won't do that with the wheels on the ground...try again, however you've probably tied me for touch down speed...but to do that in my bird, we were coming in HOT! For you, you'd be coming in on speed. lol.

No big deal most vehicles on the road today can still get that fast if you remove the govenor programmed in the computer. My '08 Ford has been up to 140 with plenty of pedal left.
"most vehicles on the road today" don't have the drag coefficient of a bulldozer, or weigh 5000 pounds, or have 4WD, or are geared for off road use rather than sports car speed.

Your '08 Ford what got to 140?

Supercharged Harley edition F150 or F250/350 Diesel is my guess.

Anyhow, I'm pretty sure my Raptor could do 140 easy without the 100mph preset but I got for off road playing.

But that is terrifying if you've never gone that fast. That outside wall comes up within inches of the car, which itself is slipping and sliding quite a bit. The G forces are pushing you sideways and down, again depending on the track. It is a visceral experience that has few equals for most people.
Well I can tell you that one very prominent nascar experience takes your actual speed and tacks on 35mph for dramatic effect. So if they tell you 170 mph, you are actually running 135mph, for instance.

Almost none of the people who go to these things have any visual reference or experience to go by. All they know is it's way faster than anything they have done.

Without remarking on certain posts, I'll just say as speeds go up, you require exponential amounts of horsepower to continue to add speed. There are engineering calculations one can do to determine amounts of horsepower you need to obtain certain speeds all depending on drag coefficients and other factors.

It's not just about power. Wind resistance and gearing are the main reasons most vehicles.

True, most people don't have a reference, and with all the other factors of being in a race car coming into play, it seems much faster.

^^This^^ is why I'm taking claimed top speeds of 4WD trucks with a grain of salt.
