The K&N. If you're keeping the vehicle for a long time it would be worth it. You'd save quite a bit by cleaning and re-using it.
But if you're short leasing or going to sell it soon then it's a waste of money.
I've used them and love them. They work particularly well in cars with smaller engines because the added airflow can give it a slight (but noticeable) boost in horsepower. Put one in my 2001 Rav4 and my hubby's '06 Civic with good results. I don't necessarily buy them for the longevity, but that is an added bonus. Also, you can get them online significantly cheaper than the auto parts stores.
Like with motor oil claims... the differences between brands does exist.
The problem for the consumer is to realize that they just don't matter
(outside of some very particular set of circumstances that will rarely apply to most users)

For no other reason than cost savings over the life of the vehicle, I use them. Any performance gains are negligable, IMO, unless we're talking a whole intake system.
I also use their oil filters on my bike because the built-in nut is about the only easy way to get a filter on and off given the tight confines, plus the pre-drilled hole for the tie wire is pretty nice.
Is the filter better than the stock filter, yes. Is it better than most aftermarket filters, probably not. Remember if you have a filter that needs oiling it can get on your MAF and cause problems. Most people that think they work have the placebo effect.
And if you think it increases HP by the seat of the pants then that is all a placebo effect.
I was going to make a comment but somebody ended the thread. I'll have to wait until the thread police are off duty.
