It seems like whoever decided to impound the cars made a Poker-like choice, bringing some sort of a full house, as, among others, we have three Lamborghini Gallardos, three Nissan GT-Rs (yes, one of them is the facelifted 2012 model), two Maserati GranTurismos.
We shall give you a few seconds to over the complete list of automotive goodies that the Police put a leash on (we are taking about an estimated total value of $2 million here):
2007 Ferrari 599
2010 Lamborghini Gallardo
2010 Lamborghini Gallardo
2009 Lamborghini Gallardo
2009 Audi R8
2012 Nissan GT-R
2010 Nissan GT-R
2010 Nissan GT-R
2010 Maserati Turismo
2010 Maserati Turismo
2011 Mercedes SL63
2011 Mercedes SLS
2005 Aston Martin DB9
It seems that the cars were racing at about 125 mph, while two of the participants were blocking traffic in order to create space for the race. When the police managed to catch the racers, each driver was cited individually. All the cars will spend a week of cold nights in the police impound lot with drivers facing a fine of $196 each.
Thirteen young drivers are facing charges after a group of exotic cars took over a highway south of Vancouver for a rush hour road road race Wednesday.
The vehicles included Ferraris, Maserati's, Lamborghinis, Audis, Mercedes and Aston Martins travelling in a group and being driven by men aged 20 and under with learners licences.
the penalties have been disappointing to many in the public, but said more evidence is needed for stronger charges.
Officers didn't directly witness the drivers breaking the law, and investigators have yet to track down video proof.
If a helicopter had spotted it and we had good evidence, we could charge them with dangerous driving and we could seize the vehicles permanently under the civil forfeiture law. British Columbia
But what do you guys that go to SCCA event and track your cars and are experienced drivers with many many years of driving experience and think of 18-20 year olds with learners permits doing this in rush hour traffic and getting off with a $196 doller fine?
I'm confused. These were all young kids driving these cars?? Where did they get them??
We have alot of very very wealthy Chinese immigrants living in Vancouver and the kids go to college here while their parents move back to China and the kids get sent a massive allowance.
Uh, it's not baby boomers cashing out on real estate and rushing out to buy their non-existent 16-20 year old children Lambos.
Doesn't really bother me. The penalties are light because they had nothing on them... they booked them on technicalities and impounded the cars. I do find that troubling. Not so much in this case, but in general. I'm a firm believer in due process and this was not it.

I know but the baby boomers are selling at record high prices and moving into a smaller places and very wealthy Chinese are buying the homes and buying their kids these cars.
I felt pretty lucky to have a car that would start when I was a teenager.
Still, is it fair to double or quintuple the impound fees just because it's a high end supercar?
Yes.
Considering the arrogance and pomp of these kids (who later went onto Chinese blogs bragging about how much better they are than the stupid Canadians who are just jealous of their wealth and perfection and made asinine comments about how they did this to "uphold the honor of China"), they deserve to get deported and have their supercars sent after them, crushed into cubes.

Do you feel that way because they're rich or because they're rich and dared to not be born white Americans?

I've known plenty of rich people who have class. Those kids don't. Furthermore, those kids are far more ethnocentric than any white American I know. If China's so much better than Canada, then why don't they move back to China?
