Last year I used Rain X on the outside of the windshield.
It worked wonderfully well!
Went to put on some and happened to read more of the directions and found it was the interior anti-fog type.
Googling brought up many complaints and some warnings about the product but none addressed this.
Is there any reason why I shouldn't use it the 'wrong' way again?
I did later buy some of the Rain X /Cleaner type but it didn't do much
Rain-X is a very good product for outside the wind shield. Consider yourself lucky you never used it inside. You would never get rid of the streaks and it attracts everything any anything and before too long you would have a film on the inside of the glass. Keep using it on the outside. It works fine.
Not sure why the anti-fog worked so good for you on the outside of the windshield.
The cleaner is just that a cleaner, then apply rain-X on the outside for a better result.
I didn't like the anti-fog on the inside of the windshield or side windows but it was satisfactory on the rear window.

I don't know why it worked so well either but since it did and realizing if there was anything harmful about it, I should have noticed by now, I'm gonna do it wrong again!

I agree 100%. Its pretty much impossible to wipe the inside of the windshield so there are no streaks...and it take a while to get rid of it. Not something I'd recommend. But no, using it on the outside won't do anything bad, might not be as effective. There is some rain-x for the rain for the outside that works great, I forget the name tho, but its the best stuff ever for when it's raining.
Use a crumpled up newspaper to wipe the streaks off the inside of the windshield.
I also don't waste my time anymore, applying and buffing RainX to the outside of the windshield. You can use the concentrate, initially 2 oz per gallon of water. Use the washer fluid liberally until the tank runs out. Then maintain at 1 oz per gallon of water. It's the cheapest, easiest way to go.
