Remember they are looking for something under 20K. Some of the vehicles that have been mentioned in previous posts are well above 20K.

I think those who suggested vehicles over the $20K mark are suggesting they look for pre-owned models. For under $20K, I think finding a 2-3 year old car with less than 40K miles would be the OP's best bet.

I'd look for a slightly used Camry.

I liked the Chevy Cruze. I went to check it out before buying my Hyundai Elantra. As you said the front seats were fine but the back seat was unacceptable. My teenage daughter could not fit in the back seat. In contrast, the Elantra is very spacious in the back seat. My kids have said the seats are very comfortable and have had no complaints on long family trips. They also like the heated seats.

The Cruze is a nice option if you don't have to worry about passengers in the back.

I test drove a Chevy Cruze last weekend. My major complaint is that OnStar comes with the car as a standard feature. I'm old school, and I doubt I'd ever use it. Why would I want to pay thousands more for a car just because of that?

I also test drove the Honda Fit. Cute car, but like many small cars today, there's a serious lack of a substantial rear bumper! If the car gets rear-ended by some moron texting or shaving, it would be nice if I didn't have to replace the entire car! This is why I've crossed almost all hatchbacks off my list.

I have three GM vehicles equipped with Onstar and I'll have to double check but I believe it comes standard, you don't pay anything for it. They give you so many months free but if you don't want to keep the service, don't. I don't have it activated on any of our vehicles.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your post, what are you paying thousands extra for?

There should be no problem finding a new Fusion, Mazda6, Sonata, Legacy, or Altima for under 20k.

My boyfriend has a Cruze and we love it. I'm not sure what's so boring about it like the one poster said. I think the Cruze is super fun to drive and whenever i run into someone w/one i ask how they like it and the first answer is always, "it's so fun to drive!"
