Do any performance cars come with a feature that allows you to engage a limit switch to prevent a teenager or valet from driving the car fast?

Good question.

While i do not know, I do know in the world of high performance, there are some products that can sort of help. For instance, some MSD ignition boxes have plug in rev limiter chips. They have one that doesn't allow the engine to go past 3,000 rpm.

My 2012 Mustang 5.0 comes with a second key that you can program for your kids that only allows a top speed of 80 MPH. It also turns the sound down on the radio to alert the kids they are speeding.
No kids will be driving my car so I have not programmed the key.

I haven't seen anything like that since the old ZR1. They had a switch on the console that had 3 modes and it greatly limited power. Not aware of other cars that comes stock on but it's a great idea. The 2012 mustang kids key is also very smart idea.

I know I've had customers bring in cars they bought for their kids and we have done all kinds of various mods to limit speed. The most common is to weld a small piece of metal to the throttle body so it prevents full throttle regardless of how far the pedal is pushed. Very simple and effective and can be removed at a later time.

There are quite a few performance and luxury cars that come with valet keys that limit how fast the car will go, but most of them are set pretty low.

The aftermarket is really the place you see a lot of this and it exists for just about any car. For instance, in VW/Audi/Porsche's if you buy an APR EMCS programmer you can have several different "tunes" prebuilt into the car that you select using the cruise control stalk.

Here's how it works:

You can have up to 4 programs, most people will run them stock, 93 octane tune, race gas tune, valet. However, you can have them customized, so you could turn one of them into a "teen" setting that would let them drive the car, but would limit the amount of power it produces and the top speed.

The previous generation M5 (with the V10) has a valet key.

That would be a great tool to have. Now if they could just turn off the texting feature on all cell phones while a car is moving.
