Hi
I'm getting close to flying over to pick up a used car. As advised this might be better than not seeing it in person and shipping it. This will be the longest drive I would attempt within >36hrs. I'm hoping there will be no weird encounters, especially in rural NM and TX . Help please

Remember to put gas in your car every 300 miles or so. If you do that, the worst thing that can happen is to fall asleep at the wheel. I can't think of any other "weird encounters" that you might have. There's always lots of cars on I-10, so there must be people doing it every day.
Peoria? Ooohh. Buying one of those "only driven on Sundays to church by a little old lady who lives in Sun City"? There are some great deals in Peoria.

??? I drove from San Antonio to San Diego and it took me about 22 hours.
As jtur says, when the gas gauge gets down to half fill up...
When you hit Ft Stockton on IH10 heading east there ain't no gas stations until you hit Ozona Tx.
BTW, officially the speed limit in Texas now is now 85MPH and the speed limit is the same day or night...
Thanks guys! I'm just getting an Mitsubishi Evo. I checked and its tank runs for <250miles. I wonder if that is if I stay off the turbo. I'll definitely catch some sleep, hopefully somewhere I feel safe. Some X-files episode is bugging the hell out of me I'll probably check into Facebook often to let people know of my progress LOL
If you come back via IH 10 heading towards San Antonio, make sure to go no faster than the speed limit at least 20 miles either side of Seguin. You WILL go thru radrar. Same thing at Kerrville to Junction only not quite as bad. I'd suggest skipping staying over night at El Paso. Unless you just like hearing gun fire from across the border and maybe losing that EVO.
the only bad spot i have ever encountered along I-10 is texas canyon WSW of tucson. since you are going in the late fall, there is a possibility that snow can close the road through there, so keep an eye on the weather reports, and contact AZ DPS for road conditions before you go through the area.
Just be careful driving near Dragoon AZ, the 'Thing' may reach out and grab you and your wallet.
Also when passing through New Mexico, be careful of the reported UFO landings in that State.
Otherwise have a safe trip.
