What's wrong with your heat riser or egr?
Modern cars/trucks have censors in the intake that use air temp to control the air fuel mix, egr and or heat riser.

Then when your car gets hot you have a bigger chance of vapor lock.
warm fuel, warm/hot air=trouble.

but if it works for you.
The only time I redirected my intake is fording deep water or when plowing deep power snow as it can clog up the air filter.

For the rest of you with a warranty don't try this as you can end up voiding your warranty.

Heat riser? Welcome to 1969.

Do you even know what a heat riser is or the function an EGR system?

1. No heat riser on a 2002 Hyundai SUV .
2. The EGR valve bypasses some of the exhaust gasses back into the intake manifold , but the air filter box intake is a 3" flexible rubber hose taking in all outside air which is darn cold in the winter time.
3. I only do the intake hose mod for winter. I change it back in the SPring. Never had a problem doing this. Ever.
4. If a car is still under warranty, you simply return it to the factory position before taking it in for warranty service/repair. Mine is long out of warranty anyway.

Son, I was 8yr old in 69.

really.
I have vehicles that date back to 1945, 1968, 1974,
and a couple made after 2000.
Yea I know what they do and how they function.
But thanks for asking.

The egr is opened depending on temp, engine temp, intake temp and to control combustion temps it will warn this cold intake air
and also to warm a cold engine.

If his intake air is sooooo cold the egr will open in attempt to warm this air.

I'm sure you know more that the folks who designed it.

Outside air is to cold. where do you think you live?
so you have no proublem ripping off the mgf ?
Your hiding your "mod" from them.
If it's out of warranty why bother changing it back when you bring it in?

Next Q why do you bring it to the dealer if it doesn't have a warranty?

If you mod it own up to it.

I'm sure you know more that the folks who designed it. No, just more than you on this subject.
"The EGR valve, or Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve, is a vacuum controlled valve which allows a specific amount of your exhaust back into the intake manifold. This exhaust mixes with the intake air and actually cools the combustion process. Cooler is always better inside your engine. The exhaust your EGR valve recirculates also prevents the formation of Nitrogen related gases. These are referred to as NOX emissions, and are a common cause for failing emissions testing"

Like I said, it controls combustion temps.
I didn't say nor did you ask why do they want to control the combustion temps. I know all about NOX.

Yes, if they are to hot it will also lower the combustion temps.
SO he will be by adding hot air from the engine compartment and the engine will want to control this by running more egr gasses.

Like I said it controls combustion temps.

Now IF you knew what you were talking about you would also know that apron start up or when the combustion temps are to low the egr opens up, be it controlled by vacuum or electric .

To prove this to you get a good scan tool and a modern vehicle and watch the percentage of egr at start up or during cold climate operation.
and you can watch your exhaust gas temps

Again where does he live? The North slope as it is no where cold enough in the lower 48 to be concerned with the intake air being to cold.

Does the Red tex mean something? Your tone is lost on me

Some times, i HAVE known better than the folks who've designed the car I owned . Ive made numerous modifications to cars ive owned that have made them perform better and get better MPG ... and even run quieter . The folks that design cars are restricted by a budget and designs which meet often illogic criteria.

I put my Lincoln on a dyno, with factory intake box going to the fender, did a couple of runs and each run the horse power dropped. On the third run we opened the hood and let the hot air out and gained about 20 horse power

Doesn't cooler air provide for better combustion?

They used to make various devices to cool the combustion chamber for better performance.

I will ask my father whether hot or cool air provides better performance/mileage when I see him. He used to test and design engines for a living.

A cooler fuel / air intake charge provides for greater h.p. , but as ive already proven as has others, a warmer less dense intake charge provides for more fuel economy courtesy of the ECM leaning out the fuel/air mixture ; and in my case....at no detectable power loss or adverse affect of any kind. (modded only between October thru April) .
