Absolutely pathetic how incompetent municipalities stop at nothing to harass innocent motorists just trying to get somewhere & make a living. PATHETIC!

I love loud pipes as much as the next man, but there has to be a boundary somewhere.
In the UK, it's illegal to blow your horn between certain times of day, perhaps this legislation should be enforced in a similar way.
I love to hear open pipes go rumbling past me. I like to see burnouts, I go to drag racing.
Hell, on my Cougar, I have open 3" pipes, with nothing but a cherry bomb on each pipe, but the difference is, I use it responsibly.
I don't hold it 2 gears below where it should be to sound "cool"
When it's 2am, and I'm trying to sleep, and some arse is running about with his exhaust going RRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! ! then I can tell you, I'm not so keen !
Well, I guess people whose central focus of entertainment is to drive around making the maximum possible amount of noise will have to find a new release for their childish sense of humor.
There's one part of this that I don't understand, though. When noise enforcement is left to human police to detect and apprehend, how come there isn't any enforcement at all, and people whose sole purpose in life is to attract attention to their noisy machines don't seem to be attracting the attention of the police. In fact, courts have frequently ruled that motorists can make as much noise as they want with their mufflers, subwoofers, alarm systems, etc., because that constitutes protected freedom of speech. Cars can, in many cases, be ticketed for loud mufflers only if it is shown that the noise is caused by a faulty muffler, which is a safety issue. And cannot be ticketed for loud audio speakers at all.
So this amazing "invention" will have no practical application in law at all, and the inventor is just amusing himself with anger, the way his targets amuse themselves with public contempt and disrespect for their neighbors.
If you are driving around Calgary in the near future you may get a $200 ticket for loud pipes..

PS Not sure which way to lean on this new device as i dont have any noisy vehicles and the occasional loud vehicle isnt a real problem but just found the article interesting and posted it to see what others thought of it..
There are some thinsg I like about this, and some I don't.
PROS:
- It gives authorities a tool to accurately measure dBs, which cuts both ways but actually falls on the side of helping performance enthusiasts. Until now, while some local laws have an actual dB limit, there is no way to measure. Of course, this doesn't mean the cop won't pull you over for it, but it's subject to what his/her 'trained ear' deems as too loud. You then have to get the vehicle tested to prove your innocence, which is completely backwards from the way it should be.
- There IS such a thing as too loud for the street. I like a healthy sounding exhaust as much as the next guy, but there's a limit.
CONS:
- Like redlight cameras, I'm not a fan of having a violation anonymously enforced.

I agree...I run true dual straight pipes with Cats only...I live WAY out the country and while in town I ease around so as not to bother others...my truck is not that bad at all as long as you are not pouring the coal to it,BUT I would expect/deserve a ticket everytime I left the house if I acted like today's average poseur HD owner...revving up at every stop etc...these jagoffs need to learn respect for others and if it takes issuing a Db meter to every cop out there to get it done,so be it IMHO.
Shout it from the roof top, I'M ALL FOR IT".
My only question is, what took so long to get this device?
I hope every large city in the country installs them, especially here in Los Angeles.
