Salt Lake City, UT to a suburb of Denver for a Saturn Coupe. They stopped making them in 2002 so it was hard to find what I wanted near me. I have a sister in the area and her husband was in Utah so I hitched a ride back with him. Worked out great.

Never drove more than 10 miles to buy a car. In the future I would love to do it, for a classic or something.

I'm live in So Calif, and purchased my Chevy truck in New Jersey, had it shipped. Bought daughter a Saturn in Florida, had it shipped. Bought a 51 Oldsmobile classic in Wisconsin, had it shipped.
If you want a low mileage car, you have to open up your field of search to anywhere in the USA.
My five year old Chevy truck had 9500 miles on it. The two year old Saturn had 8000 miles on it.
You will never find the perfect used car if you're only looking in your immediate area.

I never have to travel far. They just show up when it's time to buy them.

I frequently fly/drive to fetch a used 'donor' 50 mpg car. Probably the farthest was a very circuitous route I took home from SE USA to PNW. It took me 4 months and 7000 miles to get home, as I was waiting till spring to get home (I hate rain... SW USA made a nice place to linger for a few months.

I did fly home a few times to feed the dog.

I also did a 1900 mile drive in a 'beater' (donor diesel) during the depth of winter (blizzard the WHOLE way...) WI to WA. I flew back on Friday evening and was home by Sunday morning. (I only had to stop once for fuel in 1900 miles, that was a PLUS). The blizzard conditions helped conceal the expired license plates. ND and MT were pretty rough as bridges were really drifted in. I went 134 miles in one stretch without seeing another vehicle. (nor much of the road...).

ironically EVERYTIME I buy a car sight unseen and fly in, my connection is very late picking me up at the airport. (Lots of anxiety... did they take my money and run to MEX?).
Someday I will get scammed, that will be sad.

How do you guys handle exchange of funds on remote purchases?

Went to Boston from Long Island (left during rush hour so it took like 5 1/2 hours lol) for an 03 VW GTI VR6 cause it was exactly what I wanted...silverstone gray, 24v 6spd, black/black leather interior, super low miles.

Took a road trip with my buddy from Tampa, FL to Dallas for him to trade his Frontier for a 99 Z28 about 8 years ago.
