Anything can happen; that doesn't mean it will.

However, if gasoline prices increase, then you can bet that the cost of everything else is going up right along with it. I can drive less, but I can't stop eating.

32 mpg average, driving about 1000 miles a month.

$5 gas won't even come close to derailing my budget.. in fact, I might actually welcome seeing less cars on the road.

Default $5 per gallon is old news for us

$5 per (US) gallon works out to about $1.32 a liter - that's pretty much what gas is going for here in Greater Vancouver, now. A couple of summers ago it was running at $1.58.8 per liter in a few places, which is $6 per US gallon. I make a run out to Mission BC (just over 17 miles from our place) to gas up at $1.114 li - that's $4.22 per US gallon. Of course, I'm not averse to making a trip just across the border to Lynden Washington to buy my liquid dinosaurs for $3.74 per gallon.

Fortunately my little rocket is good for over 50 mpg on the freeway where I do most of my traveling.

Yea, but food is so cheap to begin with in the US.

3.67 for me at home. During the big run-up in prices I think it was 4.35. That was when I no longer commuted so I filled up once in a while.

Right now I work from home, so a change in gas prices means cutting back on a meal out or 2 a month. I fill up once every 2 weeks or so. My new car payment is much more significant.

Haven't you noticed that even though the price of oil has been climbing, the price at the pump has been dropping. In this current economy demand has been dropping. And if this winter stays mild for the rest of the winter it will drop even further.

Anyone else hate themselves for falling for these "5 dollar a gallon gas this year" threads every year?
