Thanks for the correction. Isn't the Jetta Sportwagen imported from Germany and thus different from the Mexican sedan version?
I'm not sure. The wagon is the old style just because they haven't made a new Variant Jetta yet. So it may still be made in Mexico with the old dies.
As a B6 Passat Variant owner, I'm very disappointed in the new NA ones that a) there's no Variant and b) that the options are stripped compared to the Euro version.

That's the ultimate issue for VW. They want to grow their market share, but that means mainstreaming, hitting price points and building cars the average person wants. The downside of that is you alienate the people who bought VW's because they were VW's and different.
I have no interest in overgrown Passats and Jettas.
You know what, modern Volkswagens actually sprung from Audi. Not the other way around. VW bought Audi (Auto Union) from Mercedes, including an engineer, Ludwig Kraus, who designed the original modern-era Audi, the Audi 100, which came out in 1968. Six years later, in 1974, the first modern VW came out, which was the original Passat and was based off the Audi 100.

He made a pretty good set of drums as well (LUDWIG that is). Sorry, I just had to
I think Audi is the most stylish of the German "prestige" brands. They also aren't as performance oriented as BMW which I think a lot of buyers prefer and are less expensive than Mercedes Benz. Their entry level sedan, the A4, has gotten pretty pricey though and isn't the value it once was. Audis also have the same poor reliability as their sister brand VW.
But weren't Audi's back in the 80's pretty much junk? I always think back to that ugly thing Ferris Beuller's dad drove.
I had one of those, the final version of Ferris Bueller's dad's car, the 100. It was an excellent car. Powerful, quiet, tight, solid, nice features, and the seats were perfect. It wasn't any sports car, but it was a superb road car (and I drove it for many, very fast miles).
I didn't realize that the forum was high on Audi, but I think there have been some good, insightful answers.
IMO, Audi appeals to certain buyers. Although I've only had two, they have each been memorable cars. I realize that BMW is the definitive performance machine from Germany, but the designs haven't appealed to me as much as Audi's. The ergonomics have also been appealing. I like that Audi doesn't have interiors that look like the inside of a casino. They just seem to be a good fit for me.

Porsche, but out of the big 3 BMW is the most performance centric.
