Many moons ago I bought and sold cars as a hobby, putting them in the local flyer to get 'em sold. It's been a while, and I've got a car I need to sell. I've tried Craigslist, but they seem to get buried rather quickly and not much action. Is there any place you recommend to put a car up for sale? I remember using Autotrader before, but never got good results with them either.
Try eBay motors local classifieds, it's free to list and no fees at all. It works just like any classified ads where the transactions are done in person, but you'll get the exposure from eBay.
I was having a hard time selling my last car through craigslist and cars.com. I found out about the eBay classifieds, and had 3 offers overnight. The car was sold within 12 hours for full price to a guy that lived about 90 minutes from me. It made me a believer...
I sold mine via craigslist in the DFW area, you'll just need to log in every 2 days or so and repost the ad (they made it convenient, it's just a little button you click now). I would definitely keep doing that as it is free and easy.
I'd also look into Auto Trader. I was going to post to it but my truck sold before I had to.
I would recommend Moderator cut: No linking with low post count If you post at a reasonable price based on other like cars you should get a higher quality buyer than craigslist and also not get buried. Autotrader puts the dealers that pay the most first and then everyone else. Not so with cars.com

I am a used car dealer and I spend money on autotrader and cars.com and I have found out that location is 80% of my business. Find a business owner that will let you put the car out on a busy highway or street, you can offer them a small commison to help you out and that will get your car sold quickly !!
I agree with Spag5317 as far as placing a vehicle on a busy street. I used to own some commercial property in a small west Texas town. The property was located on the main thoroughfare and had a lot of through town traffic. Until the economy started to slow, the placement of a clean vehicle or restored tractor on the property always resulted in a quick sale. Not sure that would be the case now. No one out here seems to have any money and the ones who do are not spending.
I've advertised cars and tractors in Autotrader and never had a good response.

I have found that the sign in the parked car is the best by far. After paying for ads in the paper, EBay or Autotrader, free listings on Craigslist, I got calls from people that never came by, and lots of scammers.
Yep craigslist has a lot of scams and hard to believe that someone would actually send out money to a stranger and trust them to ship to their door, a 2010 Honda Accord for only $3500 dollars with 10K miles. Guess if someone falls for that, not too much sympathy from me! As a used car dealer though I find it a pretty useful tool and not as many bad calls. I find it to be , other than drive by location, one of my best ad outlets, next my website, and then cars.com is good and autotrader next.
