I had a 2007 Hyundai Veracruz, during the time I had it, it NEVER required any repair other than scheduled maintenance. Admittedly it needed tires and brakes when I traded it in, after 4 years and 60,000 miles. It was built in the uSA and cost $37,800 so iit wasn't cheap.

Everyone stopped reading your long ridiculous post after that first sentence. Toyota has a long history of amazing engines from F1 to hybrids. Has Hyundai been in F1? No so that is ridiculous to say. The Tundra is available with a S/C to make 500hp from the factory with a warranty. Hyundai engines are nice b/c they copied Toyota and want to be Toyota.

The "copying" part is pretty much SOP for the major South Korean companies. Just look at LG and Samsung as well as the other major chaebol's. These companies enjoy extensive government legislative and financial support and are not shy about their desire to imitate the major Japanese companies in terms of structure, products, etc.

I test drove the Honda Accord EX-L this weekend at a local dealership.

It was by far a bumpier ride than the Civic I currently drive! (drove around the same blocks I drive near my home). Needless to say, I already eliminated the Accord from my list. I am sad because I liked how it handled and the interior space - but the dashboard design was just too "busy" and the fact that I felt every little bump on the road made me cross it off my list..

back to the drawing board..

I guess my question is why can't Hyundai be as good as a Honda or a Toyota. Just because years ago they weren't as good, doesnt mean that can't be comparable now. Someone had mentioned that Hyundai's run well up to 100,000 but then there are problems. Isn't that the Hyundai's of years past. What about the 2011 and 2012's (specifically the elantra, which I am getting ready to buy in a couple weeks), whose to say that Hyunda hasn't "stepped up their game" and making a better car. Honda and Toyota can charge the higher prices and people will pay them because they run forever. Whose to say Hyundai can't fall into the same category. Just my thoughts.

I don't think anyone is saying that a '12 Hyundai can't be as good as a Toyota or Honda, what we're saying is that it has yet to be proven, it's a gamble. Once Hyundai has a solid decade of "above average" reliability ratings, I think it can be said that they are a quality brand.

A Toyota is just like a toaster. It will always work and do the job that it's asked. But's that's it. There is no passion, inspiration or adventure.

Just wanted to update everyone, I ended up buying a Honda. What turned me off to Hyundai was the lower resale value and the run-flat tires (I don't like the idea of not seeing a spare tire in the trunk).

You will enjoy the Accord for years to come (assuming you bought the Accord). I currently drive a 2004 Accord EXL with 191k miles on the odo and still running strong. My realtor drives a 2003 same model Accord with 270k on the odometer. Go figure......
