I have a 2004 Isuzu ascender.... I cranked it up this morning and my car was making a loud noise.... The fan is a little loose but I have driven 8,000 miles on it without changing the oil... I looked today and it had no oil so I opened the hood and poured oil inside the motor and the oil thing under the hood started smoking..... Wheh i bought the car april 27, 2015 the isuzu had just had an oil change.... What does that indicate?
It indicates that you should probably stick to bicycles.
That is a good point because someone had looked under the hood and said the pulley looked loose,so now that has me wondering, however, I did take it to a mechanic and he said it sounded like a rod
Just like your doctor, get a second opinion, it may be something else that's cheaper to repair. But this car is 23 years old, if I were you I would begin preparing for a replacement vehicle.

I have a '91 Cadillac Sedan DeVille (with the good 4.9L V8) that I bought about a year ago with 59,000 miles on the odometer. I had to have my mechanic install all new fuel injectors and EGR valve right after purchase as it was running poorly and dumping gasoline in the oil because it was running so rich. After that, I started hearing an engine knock on low speed acceleration. I am not sure what it is, but the car now has almost 69,000 miles and still doing it, so I have went 10,000 miles with the knock. I did some research and learned that those cars can develop what they refer to as a main bearing "thump" and the cars could make that noise for tens of thousands of miles and it will not hurt anything, it just sounds bad.
I would like to see it, but anyone would be terrified to buy this car with that sound. I have also heard that it could be the water pump making the sound (which I doubt) or even the EGR valve could be incorrect.
As far as the OP's Accord knock, I am not sure, if it is a rod I am sure it could go at anytime.

Years ago we had a Suburban come in with a rod knock, it drove ok, and it really did not sound all that bad, and customer said it had been making that noise for over a year. When I dropped the pan I was in utter shock, the rod journal was worn down to where it was less than 1" diameter, and the rods were hammered out to about 3" diameter. I've never seen a 4,5, or 6 cylinder engine do that, but yes a V8 can run a long time with a rod knock. Of course, your mileage may vary.......

and becuase thw gasket was going, and that IT WAS FIXABLE.
Well come to find out its the engine. When i test drove it, it was
PERFECT...but now that i bought it, its like a whole diff. Car
the car from MANY people looking and listening to it, has
ROD KNOCK. Now 1 of my mechanic buddies said i COULD
do an oil change with some 20-50 oil and throw some Lucus
into it also to help quiet and maybe help it last a little longer.
Does that sound right?? And would it help?.
Actually, if you can get the oil pan off with the engine in the car, if you really do have a loose big end bearing, you can change just the bearing (or all of them) and if you have not damaged the crank (much) you could have a good engine again. The rest of the car may or may not warrant doing this work.
If you keep driving it, the above repair gets less and less likely to be successful.
