Last one of these polls on older cars I will do for a while, but wanted to do one more on the mid 80s MID-SIZE cars.
1985 Chevrolet Celebrity (grandma had one of these and amazingly, it was a very good car)

1985 Ford LTD (not to get confused, the big LTD in 85 was now Crown Victoria)

(sorry, no interior photo)
(I know a man that has a 1984 Chrysler Lebaron thats a small 2dr thats based on the Plymouth Reliant) that he has had for YEARS! That car is still going, so I wonder if they were actually really good little cars? Also, he has never really maintained it).

I liked the 1985 Ford LTD the best, it has rear wheel drive and most of them came with V6 engines
People like to run down those Fords but I still see them just about every day.
I still see alot of them too... even the Celebritys. I see TWO of those LTDs about daily. Both driven by older ladies... one is a wagon and the other is a sedan like the one in the photo.
weren't the Celebrities based on the FWD X-body cars?
No, they were a totally different chassis that came out in 1982 and MUCH BETTER cars than the x-cars... although they shared some of the same engines on the 1982-85 models. It was a proven design because the Oldsmobile (Cutlass Ciera) and Buick (Century) versions lasted through 1996!
I always thought the Celebrity wasn't much to look at but they were pretty decent cars, weren't the Celebrities based on the FWD X-body cars?
Not sure. My grandma bought a new Celebrity in '84. She said she wanted a new Malibu as her previous car was an '81 Malibu but the salesman told her Malibus were discontinued after '83 and the Celebrity was supposedly the replacement.
Depended on which model engine Celebrity you picked. The Buick Century was regularly praised as a very reliable car and it had the same engines. I think the interior build quality was higher on the Buick Century. The Celebrity Eurosport was suppose to be the sport edition. It wasn't really sporty but I heard the handling was better. One said the Celebrity would have been better if this had been the standard suspension. I'll look up some more info
edit addition
Looks like the Eurosport added anti-roll bars to help the suspension. The V6 engine was 2.8L and very weak by today's standards. Found one site that said the 0-60 was 9 seconds for the V6 and the lateral acceleration was .76 I think. Probably hampered by the heavy front half and 14 inch tires. I remember that Chevy, Buick, and Olds all had a 2 door sport model that wasn't bad looking at all.
