What American cars would you hold up to the world if you had to represent the USA's recent automobiles?
I've had three American cars and 2 Japanese cars; the American cars were/are reliable and the Japanese cars (Hondas) were financial vampires.

Currently have a 2007 Ford Mustang and it's the best car I've ever had or driven. I've heard good things about the recent model Taurus but haven't driven one yet. I drove a Chevrolet Cruze and that was good, comparable to a Toyota Corolla I suppose, but with attractive styling, intelligent design and reliable.

The Viper would be third right behind the Corvette Zo6 as far as being world class which are both behind this car.

There are no Detroit 3 vehicles that can hold a candle to Japanese makes in quality. The Ford Fusion came close. However it was a Mazda design built in Mexico.

BZZZT! Wrong. It used to be, but the current Fusion is all-new and on an all-Ford platform with EcoBoost engines.

I would agree with outafocus. American automakers just cant seem to compete with Japan in terms of reliability. Our cars kick butt in performance though. I challenge you to find a better tow/work vehicle than a full sized Ford or Chevy truck and Jeeps, although also unreliable, are simply the best performance off road automobile that you can buy.

Funny, that's the car(s) that came to mind for me also.

Maybe honorable mention to the Chrysler 300 and Mustang 5.0

Before we go any further, please define "world class", as it applies to vehicles.
And while you are at it, define "class" as it applies to vehicles.
Bob.

I forgot about that car. Yes, I think that would be #1.
