wow Texas must be closer to free? you don't want to look into California... when air is taxed and your carbon footprint has to be paid for on a personal level no matter where you are, you can be sure it will be California that institutes it.

Texas reserved the right to succeed but it looks like they are getting some ideas from some of the other leading states now?

You're mixing income taxes and sales & use tax. There is no profit requirements for sales & use tax.

A lot of states (like Michigan) tax used cars on the declared transaction price of the car. Everybody lies.

Double taxation happens lots of places. You earn money and pay income tax on it, and if you have anything left, you pay it to your dentist to do a root canal. Then he gets taxed on what you pay him. Then he hires a yard man, who pays income tax for the third time for earning the same dollar.

Last two blue states that I have lived in does the same thing. MI is a bit different because there is no tax on sales between family members.

So, despite the urban legend about NJ being a state that taxes everything to the max, perhaps this reputation is not accurate.

Simple, if you don't wanna pay the tax DON'T buy it,and register it. Start walking and whine over them taxing your walking shoes

Hmmm...It seems that it may be hard for a person to succeed in life with that type of taxation. Maybe the OP should secede from the state of Texas.

How is it any different than any sales tax you pay? It has nothing to do with making a profit.

the way I am looking at things now is most Americans are losing about 30% of their paycheck... (including sales tax and fees due to exist in ones respective county) do I need to see two separate notations on my check indicating how much state or how much federal was taken out? I think not...

maybe when the combined total gets closer to 50% of your earnings then people may start getting the same outlook who knows, but it is coming.
