Toyota Camry 2000 with original Stereo system:

Volume of my stereo system is fixed at one level, I am not able to control it, However it was at low level some time back, but after spending 10-15 mins in rotating the Volume control knob in various angels I was able to increase the volume, so my guess is it's the Volume control knob that might be bad, Any help in diagnosing this problem will be really helpful, Thanks

Can you pull the knob off? Is there a center "bar" that you can turn by hand and adjust the volume.

Like the knob itself is disconnected from the centershaft?

If so auto parts stores sell some cheap universal replacements. Or you could try to glue it.

Anything older just get a new radio. I don't know if Toyota started to have intigrated radios back then or not.

Sent from my autocorrect butchering device.

My son has this problem. No matte what I say, he cannot seem to figure out how to turn it down or adjust the e.q. so it is not all base.

My wife's Nissan has a similar problem. I can turn the knob forever, both ways, and usually nothing happens, but occasionally it catches. So the knob is obviously slipping on the post. Rather than gluing it, just put some pancake syrup or something on the post and then put the knob back on. It'll give it stickum, but will still come off if you ever need to.

Or do what my neighbors do. Set the volume as high as it will go and forget about it.

Did you try looking around the edges of the knob for a set screw? Somebody else in another forum had the same problem, and was told it needed to be repaired in a shop:

If its one piece and could not have been simply removed by pulling I assume you need a new radio. You can get an aftermarket one for like $75
