With gas prices the way they are that's my pick of car to modify just with some headers & a exhaust not to mention some bigger sway bars the Miata. Plus some sticky tires. All good!

With that said car makers are making more & more powerful cars these days upwards to 500 WHP. Unless your racing them I don't see the point.

Nissan 240 SX- RWD, great handling, and an easily tuned engine. Swap rims and tires with about two inch bigger than stock, get engine up to the Japan only motor power and work from there, lower suspension by about an inch, replace springs and struts, and add a tower brace and thicker anti-sway bar. Make the body look factory original without any video game decals.

Mazda MX6- i'd see if I could drop in the current Mazda 6 V6 for better acceleration, larger rims and wheels, and rework the suspension. It's already a good handling FWD car but it lacked muscle and shoes to stand out.

Chevrolet Cruze-rip out the 1.4L turbo and replace it with the 2.0L turbo from the Buick Regal. Replace stock tires with summer performance tires. Of course, would need to change the electronics to match the 2.0 turbo. Here's hoping GM does t for me (like I could afford that on my budget)

Plymouth Prowler- see if the new Pentastar engine will fit under the hood along with Chrysler's new manual transmission

Friend of mine has one its awesome.

Just cars to add that I didn't notice.

C5 corvettes. I drove a bone stock down to the run flats and almost tweaked out a high 12. Ls1 is proven, along with a 6 speed.

You can get them as low as $15k now. Great suspension, relatively, cheap, fun, fast, and sexy.
