Yes I'm aware that there is a space in a lot. I typically type from my phone so I'm not noticing errors when they happen. I'm actually surprised I haven't made more.
It looks like I'm about average. For a $7.00 wash, I tip $3.00 - and that goes into a communal jar and is divided up amongst them.
I have a muddy driveway - and dogs who are always happy to see me when I get home - and the workers always have a little work to do before I go through the wash itself.
One place that I go to sometimes had one kid who worked there who told me the owner told him he had to charge an extra $5.00 for extra dirty cars (like mine). I refused to pay it and left and called and spoke to the owner a couple of days later and he said that was bogus, that he had never said any such thing. That kid no longer works there.
I always tip. Usually around $5. They vacuum it before it goes through the automatic wash, then they clean the interior and the windows inside and out and then dry it. Usually two guys working on it, sometimes three.
$22 - $33, depending on where I go and whether they are offering any specials

Basic wash........no tip
Deluxe wash, wipe dash/wheels.....$3-5
Detail- $10-20.
If I have to point something out that was missed (dirt on rocker panel, bug on windshield) then tip drops signficantlyl Those guys are making minimum wage and if they do minumum work then they deserve nothing. Go up and above, make it worth my attention and the tip is appreciation for the extra effort.
Paying tip depends upon the type of service and the job they performed.
