I received a "Free Detail" coupon from VW in the mail, which the dealership normally charges $150 for. The detail was done at the "shop" or residence (who knows) of a private company, and i'm willing to say that I was not very impressed. Glass was cleaned, but i found spots that were forgotten, floors were vacuumed, but not steamed or anything special, seats were wiped down, dash and door cup holders cleaned, vents cleaned. I think the car got a wash and wax, but who knows if it was claybarred, wheels detailed, etc...in all honesty, it was similar to what I'd do if I were doing an intensive cleaning on my car, but in many ways, it wasn't as thorough a job as I'd have done...There's no way I'd pay $150 to have someone do that amount of work, if it had been prestine, with a good quality control process to verify everything was complete and a customer was going to be happy...I might consider it every several months...but at the price point and the service provided...it was pretty pathetic.

The important thing is to form an LLC corporation and register it with the state, as well as getting a sales tax number so that you can purchase professional waxes and other supplies. I would also look into some kind of insurance so that if you INADVERTENTLY damage the vehicle you are covered.

I don't know where you live, but here in Springfield, MO, there are many people who are willing to pay $100+ to have their car professionally detailed on a regular basis. They do not have the time, nor the patience to fiddle with it themselves. You could also get a contract with some used car lots in your area who do not want to keep a "detailer" on staff but need to have this service provided from time to time.

good luck to you!

thanks
