Accord is a better engineered car. Timing chain on the 4 cyl do not need replacement, almost a zero maintenance vehicle. Toyota steering feels like a video game console....
Go with what you like and feels good....I am a Honda person (my current Accord has 196k miles at the moment).
XLE is supposed to be the highest end model but most toyota's have poor steering feel (electric steering or whatever) partly because of the demographics they are marketed towards.
You could never photograph me driving a Camry......

At the time when I first drove the Camry, I owned a 2006 Mazda 3s. After feeling the way the Camry steered/handled, I could not wait to get back into my Mazda. My Mazda felt like it was on rails compared to the loose handling/steering of the Camry.

I've driven the new 4 Cylinder Camry SE and it feels a lot better than the XLE or LE that you're talking about... The steering and suspension actually felt good and to be fair felt better than Accord EX's... I ended up with the Accord mainly because of the deal that I got. If I was getting the same Exact deal, I surely would have picked the Camry SE easily... They've really improved especially in the SE trim. Just my $0.02 worth..

All I can say is that you should wait until the fall if you can. for 1, the new accord will be out and you might want to consider that, however, I'm sure you're going to get a better deal on the older one now, than the new 2013.
2) if you like the accord, they will be clearing out the 12s even moreso than now. 3) the new altima is worth a look, the current one isn't bad either, although I'm not sold on CVTs.
I'm not sure what I'd pick, my only experience with teh camery was the older generation, I felt it was cheapish feeling inside and boatlike. A lot of toyotas in that price range seem to have cheaper feeling interiors. I have a previous gen Honda accord and felt the materials were better and the driving experience was nicer. Hopefully the redesign and SE on the Camry fix those issues.
The Passat is a nice car.. I don't know how nice inside at the lower trim lines but really sweet looking and feeling... reliability is suspect, resale is bad compared to the two noted here. The Sonata is cheaper, and is a really nice car, but I can see shying away from that for a tried and true model. As honda's commercial says, a warrenty isn't a replacement for a quality car, the sonata is def improved from their previous reliabilty, but still I'm not completely convinced.
Toyota quality has suffered a bit recently... The Accord is the better vehicle here. I love my 2008 Accord EX-L 4 cyl sedan, you cannot go wrong with an Accord.
Can you post a link to the news relating to "Toyota's quality has suffered a bit recently"?
While Subaru has moved up on the list with US consumers over Toyota and Honda, these two companies are still on top relating to reliability.
I think the MAJOR con for Honda Accord is its size. It looks BIG and, dare I say, fat.
Fat? Probably the jellybean look adopted by automobile makers in recent years. Honda did the same with the CRV a couple of years ago.
