Do whatever makes you happy. Don't stress on the money... money is unlimited. If you're happy with your car, then fine. If you want a car that's more impressive, then fine. Don't let this board or others control your actions.

Well, I may not be Someone to them, but I certainly am to my real friends and family!

I'd never kill myself trying to pay for a car or wardrobe beyond my means. This "status" never lasts, anyway. There will soon be a better or newer model car that you're supposed to own, etc. It's a never-ending battle, and it's exhausting. Where is your enjoyment of life if this is what you're literally buying into? Besides, I'd bet that your friends aren't happy. If they were, they wouldn't have the need to tear you down and make fun of you for being so different. I'd keep the car you have and ditch your friends.
I will have to admit after thinking about it, I might need find a crowd that isn't so much into expensive cars, luxury items, etc. Keeping my Hyundai will save me ton of money, and making more laid back friend give me less stress too! Now maybe I need go figure out where laid back people hang around Dallas.

My point was that many people have these cars because they want others to think they're wealthy, but living paycheck to paycheck while owing $600 per month (or more) on car payments is not what I call wealthy.

They are not friends if they are so concerned about what you drive. I have never gave a darn about what car a friend of mine drove.

I do not know how old you are or your life experience, but here are two things; one, if your friends are paying payments on their cars, they do not own jack, the bank does; and two, many wealthier people (I include myself in the upper class), drive non luxury cars, i drive an eight year old SUV, why? Because my money goes towards where it counts, not some non-essential BS like a luxury car, which all in all, is just prestige pricing and offers little over a non luxury car relative to price, especially when speaking of cars like Lexus, Audi, and BMW.

i wont be friends with anyone who drives a car worth under 50k. that includes used cars. if you buy a 60k car, you better trade it in before it drops in value before it reaches that 50k mark. once it does, dont expect a phone call from me or a response to your texts.

Lot of my friend have been encouraging me to an expensive car since I can afford it. Supposedly, it will approval my social standing great and even help out in picking up girls.

So I have been looking around at luxury cars and thinking about picking one up. The Audi A4 or Infinite G25 both look pretty good to me. I would definitely would nice to own luxury car since I haven't down one. They pretty cool features and drive a lot better than my current car.

Like I said I do have money to spend on one. I have a feeling I might get buyers regret for spending so much $$$ on darn car after buying it. I need seriously think about buying it since main reason for me get one would be "improve my social standing" as I have heard. Has buying expensive cars actually increased any of your guys social standing? Do you think buying a luxury car for this reason is good idea?
If you have friends who are making fun of you because of what you drive, you don't need a new car. You need different friends.

If it takes a nice car to win the approval of your friends . . . it will be cheaper to get new friends. Plus the quality of the friendships will improve.

I can completely understand what your are thinking. My Daily driver doesn't fit my income or job either and I often get greif from friends and coworkers. Most of them drive high end luxury cars or really high end sports cars and it's not at all uncommon the see a R8 or a lower end Ferrari in the lot. The guy in the next office over from me just bought a year old SLS a couple of months back and hasn't shut up about it since. My best friend of 25 yrs is a successful business guy and recently sold his company for a pretty penny. As a present to himself he bought a used ford GT and a CTS-V Wagon as a "family" car. As you can see i'm surrounded by high end cars and don''t have one.

My income would allow for this but not comfortably so Ive shy'ed away from them and spent some money on muscle cars and put the rest away.

You also need to consider the other side of owning a high end car. It attracts attention that you might not want. Driving one of these cars in a bad neighborhood could cause you some unwanted problems. Then there is also the impression the car will give the less fortunate. You could be seen as a snob or worse.

I dont know your life style or where you live. If owning a higher end car makes you feel better o might advance your career then I say go for it but consider all of the potential problems that could come from them as well.

Your money your choice.

I don't think the average car affects what people think of you too much.

I will however agree certain cars do. A lot of cars typically highschoolers or young college kids drive do at time seem less mature. Sports cars and big trucks have there stigma.

Women don't care as long as you are financially secure. You don't need a beemer but they don't want to see a 5 different colored 20 year old Ford escort with no wc and 400k miles either.

I like to have my car also be a little bit of an accesory. Something that expresses my personality some.

I think any purchase of any product should be for you, and you alone. I have many friends, all who drive, and what they drive never comes to my mind when I think about them. If your friends are defining your value to them by what you drive, I would suggest finding new friends. It would be less expensive, and probably way more satisfying in the long term.
