A friend of mine asked me to replace the brake lights on her car (08 Hyundai Tiburon). Said that a motorist alerted her that her brake lights weren't working.
I replaced the bulbs but when I had her step on the brakes they still didn't come on. Had her turn on the headlights and the bulbs lit up, but when she stepped on the brakes still didn't get brighter.
The weird thing was that after stepping on the brakes again they did come on once but not again. So I know it's not the bulbs, but I'm wondering if there is anything else I can take a look at before she brings it to a shop.
If it's both lights then I also vote for the pedal switch. I had a similar problem in a 2011 Mercedes but only on one side- it was a corroded contact that was solved via soldering a bypass wire over the bad spot (it was on the board that all the bulbs in the tail light connected to, not where the bulb itself made contact). Apparently a common problem in that car.
Awesome, thanks so much for the information. When I was looking up the switch online, I stumbled across a Hyundai recall for this exact issue.
Thanks again!
