4 months ago our 2006 Toyota Innova stopped in the middle of the road one day. Tried to restart it half a dozen times, no go. 3 hrs later waiting for a tow truck, I decided to start it again and it started, but it took awhile before it started up. Ever since then, it hasn't yet happened again. My mechanic even hooked up an engine anylzer under the dashboard, but nothing showed up unusual. Beats the heck out of me!

Maybe it is a fuel saving feature.

Looking at what they have done to my phone so they can claim and advertise longer battery life, it woudl not surprise me that they did it with cars. "Look our car gets amazing MPG (when it is not running).

I had the same happening on highway with a Pontiac Bonneville (rental) many years ago.
Very scary...engine turn off by itself while I was driving at around 60 MPH.

Luckily was not a lot of traffic and nobody behind me.
Restarted with no problem and worked well for rest of the day before I returned it.

This will lock the steering wheel.

My guess is that you have a problem with the computer module that controls the ignition, but it could be lots of different things. Search online. If there are a lot of people with a simlar problem, there will be some who found to solution and posted it.
You have a bad ignition switch. My Cavalier had the same problem.

While it's possible, and maybe that's what happened in your case, please don't make blanket statements. The issue can be a number of problems.

Almost always a crank sensor if the car just dies, but you are able to restart, if you put in neutral. . Common on some early 2000 GM vehicles
